Ms. Foote decided to supplement the roller shades in her three rental units with some heavier blackout curtains.
All three apartments had a similar layout, with the same size of bedroom windows. We installed a single-sheet dark mauve blackout curtain in each, on a simple metal curtain rod. The rods had to stick out further from the walls than usual, to leave room for the existing shades. We accomplished this by using some longer attachment hooks.
